come see Lo-Jack the amazing escaping hamster!

lets start from the beginning...

last night Nilla (the other hamster, the female) was insistantly chewing on her tubes. Now mind you normally we are not up until 1am or later unless its on a Friday or Saturday and we try to get them out of thier cages and into thier balls when we are up that late on Fri/Sat nights...

I'm thinking she either a: is doing this as a response to us being awake and she wants out in her ball... or b: she's doing it as a rebellious teenager would do something they know irritates thier parents... we give her cardboard from the toiletpaper rolls when they're finished and the papertowels. so basically every other day she gets fresh new cardboard. We even gave her the cardboard from the back of a pad of paper, legal size! I rolled it up as tight as I could into a tube so it'd fit into her cage. It took her a week nearly to chew threw that!

Well last night I got a little pissed off at her insistant chewing on the plastic tubes instead of her cardboard and decided to change her tubes around. I ended up getting rid of some of her tubes and adding them to Lo-Jack's because he does nasty things in his tubes so I ended up throwing alot of his away. And she'd rather run in her wheel anyways and could care less about the tubes. Unless we put treats in them...

But that is not the point. The point is I didn't touch his "tower" and I did not open his "tower" which is a twisty top like a coke bottle cap, etc... But I didn't check it either to make sure it was still secure from the last time I did a few weeks ago when I cleaned out his stinky tower and threw away some of his tubes...

Lo-Jack is not the appropriate name for this Hamster. He gets out of his cage. He learns how to open things. Just like Nilla use to open her cage doors until we made it nearly impossible to get them open/closed...

The funny thing is that I woke up to Taranis standing next to the bed saying something happened and I was waking up from a horrible dream and atfirst I wasn't comprehending what he was saying. And you know its gotten to the point where if they figure out a way to escape I'm like "ok well we'll find em eventually"...So I go back to bed and a few minutes later Taranis comes in holding Houdini aka Lo-Jack. "where did you find him?" "between the cages..." the last place I would have looked for him. Apperantly he was stuck with no way to go... lol

The last time he escaped he was under the couch. Time before that under the bigscreen TV. When he had gotten under the TV he had been out gods know how long and had made himself quite a home with food stashed underneath. That was my birthday weekend when I decided I wanted to show off my hamsters to my friends.

So now Lo-Jack (Jack Daniels is his full name) and Nilla (Vanilla Butterscotch Rum) are safely secured in thier cages with thier new tube designs... Maybe I'll let her out in her ball tonight as an appology for being a bitch and rearrainging her home on her...
