nothing is official...well i guess hearings are official but it's not been an official sentencing. 20 years and 15k dollar fine.... it just doesn't seem like enough. and now the press is involved. all you have to do is google bride and groom shot in arkansas wedding. they've talk about it on CNN. some of the tv stations up here even have covered it. they show pictures of my aunt and even some articles i have found try to turn it on her and the wedding party... saying some seriously mean and harsh things. wtf people was it a slow news day? don't you think that my aunt and new uncle and my entire fucking family has been traumatized enough by this and thier friends that were there that you have to start trying to make up shit to make it more interesting? to go off and say that the shooter didn't deserve to get himself a beatdown? fuck yea he deserved a beat down opening fire on a group of people and with CHILDREN present. stupid moronic asshole i don't care what the excuses are... i don't care what the reasons are.... this person is obviously NOT stable and 20 years and a fucking 15k dollar fine IS NOT FUCKING ENOUGH.
15k wont even begin to cover thier medical expenses. my aunts husband is going to have to have his jaw completely reconstructed. you know how long he's going to be out of work because of this and her too?
20 years and 15k dollars my ass. he opened fire on CHILDREN! on BABIES... sigh. what if he hadn't just wounded my aunt? what if it was a child he had shot in the head and nearly killed? i bet it wouldn't be 20 years and a 15k dollar fine then. no they'd be lynching him up on the nearest fucking tree.
“...So do we pass the ghosts that haunt us later in our lives; they sit undramatically by the roadside like poor beggars, and we see them only from the corners of our eyes, if we see them at all. The idea that they have been waiting there for us rarely if ever crosses our minds. Yet they do wait, and when we have passed, they gather up their bundles of memory and fall in behind, treading in our footsteps and catching up, little by little.”--Stephen King

I'm so sorry. You're right, 20 years and 15k is not enough. You have every right to be angry at the media but in your heart, you know the truth and you have to tune them out. CNN just likes to hear itself talk to fill time. Sending positive thoughts.
ReplyDeletethank you.
ReplyDeleteIt is not enough.
ReplyDeleteBut he likely doesn't have more than 15k (may well not even have that). A higher fine may not be possible. The judge also can't impose a fine outside of the range set by statute - and the statutes in this regard are way behind the times (and not indexed to inflation).
20 years is a long time in prison. It doesn't make for for anything that happened, but it gets him put away for a long time (and again, the judge is limited by the statutes).
Moving this quick, I'd also have to guess that the guy just pled guilty right off. That is real unusual! The time may have been plea bargained (and to enter the plea so quick, the can't have been fighting too hard - for anything other than how long he'd sit, and a 20 year plea bargain is fairly high for bargained cases - in the absence of anyone actually dying, 20 is likely fairly well up on the possible range of sentences).
Does any of that help? Probably not much. But he got a lot more than a tap on the wrist.
