yea i'm about 4 hours from being 24 hours over due in even acknowledging the earthquake.. I guess if the world would have ended at about 4:30 in the morning friday I never would have known... I woke up, just like most people but I didn't think much of it. Probly because I'm on the 4th floor of our building. I felt a little shaking but figured it was strong winds or the elevator. and if it was strong winds I could laugh in its face as many tornados as I've been through in my life growing up in the tornado belt.
and when the aftershocks came, when I was wide awake and moving around, I was like thinking to myself "are we having an earthquake?" --honestly that's what i thought-- and dismissed it as the wind or elevator again. NOT until I got in the blazer and was on my way to work did I realize what I blindly went through this morning. It's all over the news, the media both tv and radio and do I notice? NOPE. not one bit, Roland Deschain of Gilead, the line of Eld would be *VERY* dissapointed in this gal. (See Stephen King's "Dark Tower Series")
but that's all. I never thought i'd ever feel the earth tremble and move like that. hell, must not've been anything special, I slept right through it almost. If I had been in my bed instead of on the couch I'm sure I would have slept through it. Hell, even Drake wasn't freaking out about it. He just looked at me and laid his head back down once I laid backdown.
and there you have it, my first "earthquake" experience...
now i have a question for you (i question everything don't i?) i've read and heard on the radio/news reports that people in BOSTON have said that THEY felt this little quake. if they felt it in Boston, how come Arkansas didn't feel it? I can understand Kentucky feeling it... Havn't heard a thing about Missouri... I think some folks are just wanting thier 15 minutes of fame and are attention getters. Just like those people I saw on tv sayin thier animals were all freaking out and going nutso and woke em up right before the quake started and that they were shook all over the house. have they NOTHING better to do than to interview the stupid attention getters?
We have the same problem in arkansas, when tornados come through, they find the most redneck sonofabitch that can't speak hardly cuz all of his teeth (or her teeth) are rotted out and if it's a female its a big fat ass cow in a moo-moo with rollers in her hair sayin how she was standing on her front porch and WATCHED the tornado jump over her trailer. I think it's hilarious. I particularly remember one redheaded cow with pink and yellow rollers in her hair in a bright canary/banana yellow moo-moo sayin she heard a rumbling noise and went to investigate and was holding onto her porch railing upside down flyng in the air... I think she watched the movie Twister one too many times.
All in all I'd have to say that THANKFULLY I don't live in Cali where this is a "normal occurance" and on a much larger scale. I'd truly hate to be in a larger earthquake. I think that I probly wouldn't "sleep through" if that did occur. HOWEVER! I could be wrong, I've slept through some pretty fucking amazing tornadoes and some I'm sure I would have slept through if the windows weren't open in the bedroom and the sirens going off hadn't woke me up or the phone ringing from a family member telling me to get my ass under cover. Most of the time I'd blurr sleepily into the phone "my ass is undercover damnit I'm sleeping" and wake to carnage around me and news broadcast telling me what I slept through and how amazingly lucky I was that I didn't die that night.
Shoot, maybe there's hope for me after all!
“...So do we pass the ghosts that haunt us later in our lives; they sit undramatically by the roadside like poor beggars, and we see them only from the corners of our eyes, if we see them at all. The idea that they have been waiting there for us rarely if ever crosses our minds. Yet they do wait, and when we have passed, they gather up their bundles of memory and fall in behind, treading in our footsteps and catching up, little by little.”--Stephen King
