...also known as, "Meeting the Family"
I guess you could say the trip started off fairly well. Even though we were in the middle of rush hour traffic starting off because Joe got off later than expected.
There were moments when we wanted to throttle the cat and beat his ass. Until we figured out the different meanings of his cries, it was pretty rough. And now we know that he hates to travel at night. And now I understand and realize why he always cried and yelled when I took him on trips: the boy hates to ride at night.
On the way back (and the last 1/2 of on the way there) we'd stop every 2 to 2 1/2 hours and just let him be in the back of the truck with his litter box for about 15 mins or so. doing that helped ALOT with his crying. Its just so much worse at night.
Joe and I took turns driving/sleeping on the way to Arkansas. I didn't get much sleep cuz Drake had to have my constant attention because of his dislike of riding at night time.
Friday morning when we arrived my Neices were at the house waiting for the school bus. After that it was visiting time with my Parents. Feather stopped by a little later and her and mom went to run errands while Joe & I decided to make a run to the storage unit and then visit my grandparents.
My grandpa seems to be getting worse with his memory because of the strokes he's had. The last time I was down he seemed "brighter" if you know what I mean? We ended up running into Aunt P while at Grandpas and then we went back to Daddy's house.
Saturday we got up early and unloaded the storage shed. After that was finished we headed out to Cabbot to see his Momma's land out there... that's another post for another day. But the point is: there is land there and all we gotta do is talk to his Mom about it and we might beable to move onto it.
After our visit to Cabbot we went back to Daddy's and rested up for Dinner with Hephaestus and Dreams. We waited for 30 minutes at the restuarant and they never showed up. We ended up picking up dinner for daddy & mom.
Later that evening after dinner, we decided to go bowling. Raquel came with us. Hunter doesn't like to bowl. Feather said she and Neapolitan where too tired. (and we were the ones moving crap all day..) well, after overpriced bowling and not finding any balls that we could decently bowl with we headed out to Raquel & Hunters house where Joe & Hunter played Halo with a friend of Hunters. I think Joe wants an XBox now. I wouldn't mind having an XBox and/or a Wii as well.
We got home about 2 am? then crashed. Sunday morning I woke up to Suga calling me and she came over and hung out with me and Joe while Daddy & Mom were at church. After the family got back from Church we all met out at a local place & had lunch. I think that is the first time that we've all been together at one table in a very very long time. I know it made Mom & Dad happy to have all of us and our men together for a wonderful lunch. I'm so very happy that I suggested we do that.
After lunch we rested up and visited with my parents some more and then we headed out back to Illinois. We stopped off at russell stovers and got matching bears. I call them Mr. & Mrs. "Taranis" (last names off limits). and now we're home.
Nothing exciting and nothing really to "write about". Everyone loves Joe and he seems to like my family. We're discussing moving to Cabbot. It'll be a few years but I don't want to live in ChicagoLand or Illinois the rest of my life. And it's *REALLY* close to Little Rock and bigger cities so it would NOT be hard at all (or shouldn't be hard) for us to find jobs there.
I'm almost done getting everything together again in the condo. It was so nice to eat dinner lastnight together at the table instead of on the couch. And the space looks SO much better with my stuff from Arkansas in it.
OK! Gotta get back to work... I'll respond to comments on posts later this evening...
“...So do we pass the ghosts that haunt us later in our lives; they sit undramatically by the roadside like poor beggars, and we see them only from the corners of our eyes, if we see them at all. The idea that they have been waiting there for us rarely if ever crosses our minds. Yet they do wait, and when we have passed, they gather up their bundles of memory and fall in behind, treading in our footsteps and catching up, little by little.”--Stephen King

I'm really sorry we missed you guys for dinner Jenny but the baby got really sick and I didn't have a way to call you and let you know we had to cancel. I think I have your number somewhere but with everything else going on it just wasn't what I was worried about at the time. The baby is actually finally doing better but it was kinda hairy there for a while. It's so hard when they can't talk and tell you what is going on with them. She had a urinary tract infection that made her temp spike up to 104 degrees. Made us both panic but we got it taken care of and please make our apologies to Joe for the no show. Hope you had a good family visit!

i'm glad she's doing well. i'm sorry she got sick! maybe next time.
ReplyDeleteYeah that sounds like a typical trip home. I'm really sorry about your grandpa. I've heard cats don't travel well. My friend who is moving her cats cross country is hoping to get them a sedative so they don't drive her nuts.
ReplyDeletesedatives did not help with drake, unfortunatly. i guess he's immune. or i havn't found the right one yet.
