“...So do we pass the ghosts that haunt us later in our lives; they sit undramatically by the roadside like poor beggars, and we see them only from the corners of our eyes, if we see them at all. The idea that they have been waiting there for us rarely if ever crosses our minds. Yet they do wait, and when we have passed, they gather up their bundles of memory and fall in behind, treading in our footsteps and catching up, little by little.”--Stephen King

Interesting Phone Call
I'm minding my own business and my phone rings. Not a number I recall seeing before, but I answer it anyways. On the other end is a woman wanting to speak to me. Oddly, her voice sounds familiar, but I can't place the phone number. I confirm that yes, I am who she is seeking and she starts in about voting early. I politely interupt her "Ma'am, I know about voting early, my husband and I have a sheduled trip and we will be gone for the Vote" She then says that thats wonderful that we will be voting early and wanted to know if I'll be showing my support to John Kerry. Ah, yes, now I remember why she seemed so familair. We had talked when I was part of Kucinich's campaign. I proceed to tell her that we have already had this conversation when she was trying to convert me from the Kucinich peoples to Kerry. She ofcourse denied that she was this woman, but I knew she is the one I got into heated discussions with before about Kerry. I proceeded to tell her that the Democratic party has let me down and I am now giving my full attention to the Greens. She comments nicely upon the Green party (specifically how thier stand on the issues is exactly how she feels) and Mr Cobb, but insists that I still support Kerry, because there is no other way to get Bush out of office. Well, by this time I'm starting to get emotional. I have family members and friends with infant children they were forced to abandon to fight a war we never should have part in. She's going on about how Kerry is going to make it better. BETTER! HOW can he make it better if he plans on keeping our troops overseas, I ask. Ofcourse that is not the turn she wants the conversation to go, she wants to change the topic to putting Bush out of office. How we need Kerry to do that. She goes on to say that if it wasn't for Bush running again then she would vote for the Greens. I told her that it doesn't matter who is in office or who is running for office, if the Greens are more dear to her thoughts and feelings, then she should go Green and damn the rest. That we will never have more than a 2 party system as long as people had narrow thoughts like hers. Oh, she didn't like that at all, ofcourse, I guess no-one likes to be called NarrowMinded by a 24 year old housewife. So, as I start to get really irritated with her putting Kerry on the pedastal, we argue for about 30 minutes (hey, its her dime not mine, she called me. I'll waist her money like the Democrats and Republicans waist ours). And finally I just lose it, In heated passion I tell this woman, "look, you may not have any morals, but I do. I will NOT vote for one Monster just to kick another out of Office! And I'm not sorry about it either, Lady. I like to beable to sleep at night. If I voted for Kerry I could never forgive myself." Well, she says "i'm sorry you feel that way" and I said "no lady, your the one who'll be sorry when Kerry turns out to be a worse Bastard than all the George Bushes combined! Your the one who wont beable to sleep tonight. Your the one thats going to be saying to herself at 3am thinking ' why didn't I listen to that 24 year old housewife, why didn't i make my vote count?" and I hung up on her.
Just thought I'd share, its kinda funny and really irritating all at the Same time.
